About Acupuncture
what does it help?
Acupuncture can be used for a variety of issues, whether they be physical or emotional. Acupuncture relieves body pain, whether it's a new injury or old. Acupuncture is also very effective in helping with anxiety, stress, depression and insomnia. Sinus issues, allergies, headaches, digestion problems and gynecological/ fertility issues are other areas acupuncture is extremely beneficial.
how does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture uses small needles inserted at specific points to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. These points are on energetic pathways called meridians that run through the entire body, including muscles, organs and tissues. By utilizing these points, acupuncture can address all sorts of complaints, whether they are of a physical, emotional, or spiritual nature.
does acupuncture hurt?
You may feel the needles being inserted, but that should be nothing more than a small pinch. Some people don't feel the needles going in at all. Acupuncture treatments are generally pretty relaxing, so if there's something that is keeping you from getting comfortable during treatment, just let your practitioner know.
do I sign up for acupuncture or trigger point/dry needling?
If you sign up for regular acupuncture, you could be on a massage table or seated in a recliner. The needles are placed in your hands, arms and lower legs and feet to move your Qi and increase circulation. This acupuncture is good for body pain, (including back and neck), and also addresses more full body issues, like hormones and mental health.
With Trigger point/Dry needling, the needles will be addressing mostly body pain. If you want to work on tightness in your back or neck, you will be face down on a massage table. The needles will be inserted directly into the areas that are painful and then stimulated, breaking up adhesions and increasing circulation.
Both systems of acupuncture are very effective. Most of the time it is just personal preference as to which one you want to sign up for.
