Trigger Point Dry Needling

What is Trigger Point Dry Needling?

A trigger point is a reactive spot located in a taut band or knot in your skeletal muscle. These tend to form after an injury or trauma. This tightness of the muscle causes pain in the injured area and often causes pain to refer to other places of the body. Trigger Point Dry Needling is the technique of inserting and manipulating an acupuncture needle into this reactive spot to increase blood flow to the area, loosen the muscle, and reduce pain.

How is it different from acupuncture?

Interesting enough, most trigger point locations are also traditional acupuncture points. When choosing points during an acupuncture treatment, some are chosen for their location, but most are chosen for their function on their respective meridian. There is a lot of theory in the holistic approach of acupuncture, which is why it is so healing emotionally and spiritually, as well as physically. Trigger point dry needling is only concerned with the physical location.
